“There’s no reason, at least yet, to forgo buying an iPhone 4 over its reception concerns,” writes Consumer Reports
A new article in the research group’s Electronics Blog notes that the “signal woes” of iPhone 4 are not a unique problem, and “may not be serious.”
“Underplayed in the discussion is the fact that all phones are subject to interference from the human who is using them,” writes Mike Gikas. “And even if the alleged signal loss is real, there’s an absence of hard evidence that iPhone 4 reception is problematic compared to past iPhones; indeed, there’s evidence of just the opposite.”

FUD or not, perception out there is that there is a major problem with iPhone 4. If people start bringing them back or waiting before buying, this could definitely be a setback for the stock; luckily it’s at a time when all the markets are tanking. BTW, looks like tomorrow’s gonna be another bloodbath.

not necessarily. futures are slightly down at the moment. but shanghai is up. it all depends on what London will do during the night. rarely djia goes down when shanghai and london are trending up.

for the moment they sell all the phones they manage to make and most people do not have issues. Would you bring you phone that works beautifully back to the store because there is some FUD on the blogosphere ?

Hope you’re right…they were down 81 at one point….I just don’t see any positive sentiment, but these days, anything can happen….

and soon there will be some independent sales reports and analysts will increase their EPS estimates by fear of being ridiculous (they will be anyway) – and after earnings they will queue to raise targets – they do the same BS every 3 months
-
I did not do any computations yet (I will, and post here spreadsheets and estimates) but I guess ESP will be in the range $4-$4.5 – that would be a 30%-50% analyst average beat
-
bottom line, by the end of July, we will have new all time highs

I hear you…but for those that have issues, their issues are very real, and they are Apple followers, not just the random bloggers who like to take Apple down a notch…I’ve been checking out forum comments on Macrumors and Appleinsider, etc….now is it a bad batch or will the complaints just disappear over time, who knows…but for now, it seems to be a real problem….I don’t doubt that Apple can’t supply enough of the initial demand, but some may hold off until a fix is in….and I am somewhat cautious about this quarter’s iPhone sales….many people know that new iPhones are released at WWDC and wait until then to make their purchase decision, and now, people have known since April 19 what the iPhone 4 was more or less about…so iPhone sales for the quarter may be disappointing analyst-wise, which means the blockbuster sales will be had in the September quarter….remember January earnings, no significant spike in stock price after the blockbuster announcement and iPhone sales were a tad under expectations I believe (the new accounting method most likely confused Wall Street), but I may be wrong…..nonetheless, I am still very bullish, but I am sticking with longer term calls because I don’t like the market environment these last 2 months….It would be great to¬†post your numbers up here…we can compare them to the analysts and financial bloggers…I believe that Turley Miller was the closest last quarter…..Cheers and GLTA….

@mikeinmontreal

there was no spike in January for several reasons (economy etc.) but probably the most important because they have changed the accounting method and analysts had nothing to compare to … somehow they said those are fake profits, when in fact the old way was a joke of accounting
-
there was a spike in April when their estimates were blown away (again, surprise !); of course this does not guarantee that there will be a spike this month, it just happens that I put something like $30k in July and August calls – I will try to milk the July calls or just to exchange them to August calls when the moment is right
-
remember the overheating 3Gs iPhones ? and the wifi iPad issue ? and the price cut of the original iPhone that will turn away customers for good ? or the cracking case of the 3G ? distant memories which had no impact on the sales or the stock price … the same will be for this antenna issue in 2-3 months

It should definitely die down by next quarter….anxious to see if any issues will affect the iPhone in Canada…Once it gets here.
You’re much gutsier than I am….almost breaking even this morning on my Oct 10, Jan 11 and Jan 12 calls….crossing my fingers for more upside in the next 2 weeks.

Consumer reports no longer recommends the iPhone 4 because of the antenna. Stock seems to be dropping as this hits the newswire.

Here’s the url from CR. Really not good news since nerds follow blogs, but CR is followed by the masses.

As consh feared, there are many forces at work that will be sure this never goes away. Has CR been purchased. I don’t think so, it’s more their own attempt to be relevant and they often do so by riding high on consumer complaints and backing them up with questionable ‘testing’ procedures.
(However, the gap should have been moved from the left to the bottom originally.)

I think Apple is about to pull off one of the greatest PR turn arounds in history.
The iPhone 4 is the first phone to allow human contact with the antenna. As such it has the potential to work much like the old rabbit ears. Remember how much better they worked when someone held them.
Apple will simply retune the iPhone 4 to extend its antenna through the human body.

Google is getting real pathetic on this one. Biggest news of today is Alcoa beating estimates. Guess what is the main article on Google Finance… Yup, you guessed it right. It’s “Consumer Reports Throws iPhone 4 Under the Bus”. I keep saying this is 20% problem 80% smear campaign. Get the freaking Verizon (and other carriers) in and it will be the end of Android. Then start search engine app that doesn’t collect consumers’ info and doesn’t show ads and be done with google. What bothers me most is that droids keep describing google as some kind of altruistic open source institution and Apple as some greedy capitalist pig. Those folks are totally unaware that google is in it for money! It’s a shame google decided to start war with Apple. They could rule the world together. It was a good combo. Now Apple will have top rule it alone
