Yeah, after watching it in action. I think it’s going to be a big deal too.
As far as everyone being disappointed. With Apple moving launch from June/July to October, I think people were expecting a lot more. The problem is they got a lot more, they just don’t know it. Apple could have changed the exterior and people would have went crazy. I do think it’s time that Apple added a different size to the lineup. I was hoping for a 4 inch screen. I don’t know how much of a problem it would be for the devs though. I definitely don’t want a jumbled up mess like Android.

I am utterly unimpressed after watching it. And it makes me wonder if Apple is already showing signs of Steve Jobs’ absence.
- To start with, marketing wise, if about 65 million people out there are expecting iPhone 5 for months, delaying their purchase , why to give them iPhone 4S? It’s like waiting for the whole pizza and getting just slice. Just call it iPhone 5, and if you have something better in works, call that one iPhone 5S or iPhone triple X, or whatever.
- Presentation was too slow and too boring. Squirrel and Mickey Mouse? Really? Cards? Maybe we can take it from Steve, but anyone else sounds just too boring, uneventful. For me only important and only interesting part was about iOS5 and cloud services.
- As for Siri, it was alright but you could download app with it a year ago, so what’s the big deal. It felt more like a filler than something incredibly new. And Forstall even said it’s beta and he doesn’t want to do live demo. And that female voice quality sucked, I remember years ago testing some Scottish company text-to-speech software and it sounded better back then. I think ATT bought them. Can’t remember the name.
My personal feeling is, they should all skip it and rather wait till they have iPhone 5 ready.

Also the Siri App that was out a year ago — it wasn’t anything like this. Apple has greatly improved it and it’s also been integrated into all the native features of the phone. This is making a huge change in how people can interact with their mobile computers/phones.
Frankly this is starting to approximate the computer on Star Trek.

I think the media set the bar so high for this event that this side of having a hot Latina inputting the search term on a hologram projected from an iPhone 5, we were going to be disappointed. I think that the iPhone roadmap and naming convention was laid out long before Steve stepped down. Tim does have a more laid back style.

Don’t agree at all! It’s been a year and a half so expectations were not built by the media, but by everyday Apple customers like you and me.
Apple blew it! All new guts along with the iCloud, iMatch, and iOS 5 demand more attention by simply naming the damn thing iPhone 5. This was an anal retentive nerd decision. although, I suspect nerds would even know better.

Funny, nobody gets worried that every new Macbook is called “MacBook” instead of “MacBook n+1″
People care what it does, how it works, how fast and nice it is, how it improves their experience in use. They know they want the newest iPhone whatever it’s called. And they don’t give a crap about what number or letter comes after the name.

Silly analogy! A few thousand units versus a 100 million units. Just turn on any news show and you’ll hear the iPhone 4S being referred to as just an upgrade. Could.you be so naive as to think potential customers aren’t listening and planning future purchases based upon what is being said?

A much better analogy is the iPad. Oh yah, the did rename it iPad 2 and proclaimed it the year of iPad 2 with exactly the same exterior. Duh!
you’re completely wrong. the iPad 2 has a different exterior than the iPad 1. flat back, slightly thinner and lighter. can’t remember where i read it, but someone said that apple’s naming scheme seems to be: increment the number when the look changes, add an S otherwise.

Thanks, I forgot that. Hopefully the next iPad will not be the iPad 2S.

Perhaps Apple will use this in their commercials.
